Purpose
A setup guide for Unraid servers to connect to UniFi UPS Tower NUT (Network UPS Tools) server. Unraid is then able to access information from the UPS to safely shutdown. As I (Steven) still do not have the full technical understanding of how the NUT master (server) and NUT slave (client) communicate, this guide will only provide how to start the connection but no technical reasoning why certain options need to be selected as I do not have the full understanding yet.
I was not able to find any documentation/specification on how UniFi runs their NUT server so things may change in the future but this was done on...
- UniFi Network version: 10.0.162
- UniFi UPS Tower version: 1.4.18
- "Network UPS Tools (NUT) for UNRAID" plugin version: 2.8.4
Setup
UniFi
- Once UPS Tower is adopted, open the device settings.
- Since the NUT server is hosted on the UPS, set the UPS to a static ip.
- Select the "NUT server" and the "Login Credentials" check boxes
- After filling out the creating the login credentials save them somewhere and apply the changes. Important after applying the changes that sets the credentials for the NUT Server uncheck the "Login Credentials" box and apply changes. When this box is selected, Unraid is blocked from reading the UPS information but this step is necessary to set the credentials.
Unraid
- Install "Network UPS Tools (NUT) for UNRAID, this should be a plugin not a docker app.
- Open the plugin settings for NUT and set these settings
- Start Network UPS Tools Service: Yes
- NUT Mode: Slave
- NUT Master IP Address[:Port]: ipaddress:3493
- NUT Monitor Username: Same username set up in UniFi
- NUT Monitor Password: Same password set up in UniFi
- UPS Name: KW-UPS
3. Apply and the UPS status should show up at the top
